DeKALB – Home sales in DeKalb County increased 15 percent in March, but it took the houses longer to sell and they fetched lower prices. There were 92 existing homes sold in DeKalb County last month, a 15 percent increase from 80 sales during March 2014, according to figures released Wednesday by the Illinois Association of Realtors. Sales of new construction homes have remained stagnant throughout the Chicago area since 2012. There have only been two counties with substantial growth in this market since 2009, Will and Kane counties. Comment?

Naperville home sales for the month of April rose in volume by 43.5% when compared to last year, while the median sale price rose by 5.6% from $355,000 to $375,000. The number of Single Family homes sales rose by 56.6%, while the median sale price rose by 1.2% from $410,000 to $415,000. Comment?

There is legislation awaiting Illinois Senate approval to help protect homeowners from having their home/property taken away from them without their knowledge, HB 3672 Property Fraud Alert at Closing Table has been approved by the Illinois House; the bill offered by Cook County Recorder of Deeds, Karen Yarbrough and sponsored by Rep. Cunningham and Rep. Harris will allow real estate professionals to officially partner with CCRD to offer the free service at the time when a new homeowner is closing on their property. Comment?

The Illinois spring housing market got off to a strong start in March with sharp gains in year-over-year home sales and median prices, according to the Illinois Association of Realtors. Statewide home sales, which include single-family homes and condominiums, totaled 11,416 homes sold in March, up 13.1 percent from the same month last year when 10,093 homes sold. Comment?

A bill introduced by State Sen. David Argall would amend an act referred to as the Recorder of Deeds Fee Law to provide money to counties blighted demolition funds. Dan Glotz, Warren County planning director, said the bill would authorize counties to add a fee up to $15 for every mortgage or deed as it is recorded, and the money would be used exclusively for the demolition of blighted properties situated in that county. Westpac Banking Corp. shares slid the most since 2011 as its plan to raise A$2 billion in capital raised concern that Australia's biggest banks will need more equity to meet stricter regulatory requirements. Westpac, which revealed the capital proposal Monday as it reported lower-than-estimated profit, dropped as much as 4.9 percent, the biggest intraday drop since September 2011. Comment?
