Home sales in the region continue to decline on a year-over-year basis, although experts say those declines are modest and the market is generally healthy. According to the Northeast Association of Realtors, 375 single-family homes were sold in the region during August, down 9.9 percent from the 416 sold in August 2013. Comment?

The House Financial Services Committee, voting 49-9, on Thursday favorably reported to the full House a NAFCU-backed bill to require federal regulators to "stop and study" the impact of their rules, including NCUA's risk-based capital proposal, on financial institutions' mortgage servicing assets. Now awaiting House action, this was one of several measures marked up and approved by the committee to provide NAFCU-sought relief from onerous rules. Comment?

As urged by NAFCU, NCUA Board Chairman Debbie Matz has told association President and CEO Dan Berger the agency will be examining credit unions for reasonable, good faith efforts to comply with CFPB's Truth in Lending Act/Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act rules as of Aug. 1. Berger, writing earlier this month about the looming compliance deadline, recalled the agency considered credit unions' "good faith efforts toward substantial compliance" in the early days of CFPB's ability-to-repay, qualified mortgage and mortgage servicing rules in 2014. Matz replied that is what NCUA will do this time around as well. Comment?
