    Contracts to buy previously-owned U.S. homes unexpectedly fell in October, dropping to their lowest level in four months and casting a shadow over the housing market's recovery. The National Association of Realtors said on Wednesday its Pending Home Sales Index, based on contracts signed last month, dropped 1.1 percent to 104.1. Economists polled by Reuters had forecast pending home sales rising 0.5 percent last month.

    The dollar's decline against most major currencies accelerated early Wednesday after disappointing U.S. home sales data fed worries the U.S. economy was losing momentum in the final quarter of 2014. The U.S. Commerce Department said sales of new single-family homes gained 0.7 percent to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 458,000 units, short of the 472,000-unit pace projected by analysts polled by Reuters.

    The number of Americans signing contracts to buy homes fell slightly in October as tight credit and lagging wages remained financial hurdles for would-be homebuyers. The National Association of Realtors says its seasonally adjusted pending home sales index fell 1.1 percent the past month to 104.1. The index remains below its 2013 average but is 2.2 percent higher than last October.
