Single-family home sales in eastern Connecticut perked right along during the third quarter of this year, but prices were in a slumber, according to the latest real estate statistics released Tuesday. Data from the Eastern Connecticut Association of Realtors, which covers home sales in New London and Windham counties, showed the strongest third-quarter sales numbers in the past eight years, with a 10 percent gain over the same period last year. The up-and-down Connecticut real estate market took a dip in August, though local sales of single-family homes fought the trend. The Warren Group, publisher of The Commercial Record, reported Tuesday that New London County saw a 3 percent increase in sales during August compared with the same month last year. Comment?

Economic activity in New England continued its modest, if sometimes uneven, expansion ahead of the winter months, which dampened growth last year. According to the Federal Reserve's latest Beige Book, the First District, which encompasses all of New England except for Connecticut's Fairfield County, saw year-over-year sales and revenue increases in retail and manufacturing contacts, net hiring in more robust fields and pay levels rising somewhat for temporary workers. Westby is a Thomaston lawyer and former Marine who opposes Connecticut's new gun law, would scrap the Common Core education standards and says the office of state attorney general has become a meddling, anti-business operation that needs to be reined in.
