Whistleblowers, including one from the Bay Area, are suing Wells Fargo alleging improper accounting controls and banking practices in Wachovia's investment bank ahead of the 2008 financial crisis, the Charlotte Observer reported. In July, the U.S. Justice Department declined to officially join the suit but said the whistleblowers could continue the case on their own, according to the Observer. Comment?

WASHINGTON U.S. sales of new homes were nearly flat in September, after the government sharply revised downward what was initially an August surge in buying.
