Several signs so far this year have pointed to a strong start to the spring home-selling season, from big home builders reporting double-digit percentage gains in sales to an indicator of pending resales in January hitting its highest point in nearly a year and a half . At first glance, the two builders reported strong sales gains for the start of this year, seemingly another indicator of a robust spring. Comment?

The number of El Paso homes in some stage of foreclosure in January increased almost 70 percent from December and increased almost 4 percent from a year ago, RealtyTrac reported Thursday. El Paso had 195 homes with foreclosure filings in January -- an increase of 80 homes from December, and an increase of 12 homes from January 2014. Comment?

With a Feb. 2 deadline looming, thousands of El Pasoans have yet to pay their property taxes, according to city tax officials. After a series of reports highlighting low inventory, higher asking prices and an increasing number of homes sold, Zillow released its Negative Equity Report last week that found San Antonio has the highest percentage - 12.3 percent - of "underwater" homes in Texas. This confirmation of home builders strong year-to-date sales reports is a very encouraging sign especially given Texas appears to continue to perform well. "Sales of new single-family houses in February 2015 were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 539,000This is 7.8 percent above the revised January rate of 500,000 and is 24.8 percent above the February 2014 estimate of 432,000." While residential prices have shot higher in North Texas in recent years, Dallas-Fort Worth homes are still more affordable than the U.S. average, according to a new report by Realtor.com The Internet real estate marketing operation compared median home prices and annual income levels in more than a dozen major U.S. markets.
