Single-family home sales rose in August, compared with last year, as the median price paid for those homes dipped to $178,000. The total volume of home sales for the state's busiest month for real estate transactions rose 3.3 percent from one year ago, bucking a national and regional decline in single-family home sales, according to a transaction tracking service maintained by the Maine Association of Realtors. Maine real estate sales continued to climb in January, fueled by second-home buyers and those not deterred by the weather. Maine Listings released monthly statistics today, which show that sales of Maine's single-family existing homes jumped 8.60 percent last month. Comment?

The State of Maine filed papers Wednesday with the Superior Court settling the state's complex lawsuit against Standard & Poor's . The lawsuit, originally filed two years ago in Kennebec Superior Court, alleged that the credit ratings giant engaged in unfair and deceptive trade practices in connection with its ratings during the time leading up to the financial crisis of 2008. Good morning from Augusta, where Attorney General Janet Mills is scheduled to release details about how Maine will benefit from a $1.5 billion settlement between the credit ratings agency Standard & Poors and the federal government and several states. According to a news advisory, Mills will hold a press conference at the steps of the Kennebec County Court House in Augusta today as she files the state's settlement agreement with S&P. Comment?

A debt collector's lawsuit against Glenn Geiser, former owner of closed Bangor used car dealership My Maine Ride , seeking overdue home mortgage payments has revealed Geiser owed more than $2.6 million to other creditors, including the Maine Revenue Service and the Internal Revenue Service. The complaint for foreclosure against Geiser, 49, of Brewer was filed Dec. 30, 2014 at the Penobscot Judicial Center by Charles Boyle, attorney for legal firm Bendett & McHugh, which specializes in debt collection . Guwahati, March 1: Persons who have been duped by realtors here today appealed to people to crosscheck all documents personally before buying an apartment so that they do not fall victim to the alleged nexus between government departments and builders. Some of them said officials of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation , Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority and circle offices have a nexus with many apartment builders for which realtors can dupe people either by producing fake documents or not producing any document at all.
