The U.S. Senate gave final congressional approval tonight to a bill extending more than 50 tax provisions that expired at the end of 2013, including several used by farmers. The bill, which passed by a 76-16 vote, now goes to President Barak Obama for his signature. Comment?

New York financial regulators have reached a settlement with Ocwen Financial Corp. requiring the nation's largest subprime mortgage servicer to reform its practices and provide $150 million to help struggling New York homeowners. Sales of previously built homes slipped in November to their lowest level in six months as the supply of properties remained tight, an unexpected setback in what has shaped up to be a disappointing year for the housing market. The National Association of Realtors reported Monday that existing-home sales fell 6.1 percent in November from the previous month to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 4.93 million - dropping below the 5 million mark for the first time in five months and defying analyst expectations.
