Thousands attend annual healing service in Sri Lanka

Colombo, Sri Lanka, Sep 15, 2014 / 08:04 pm .- The annual "Day for the Sick" held by the Archdiocese of Colombo recently drew more than 5,000 Sri Lankan faithful to the Basilica of Our Lady of Lanka for a service led the Cardinal Ranjith. The spiritual, inner healing service and blessing of the sick is a renewal of faith held in Ragama, a suburb of Colombo, and has been observed annually for 67 years.

Sri Lanka-China to negotiate on FTA during Chinese President's visit

Sept 15, Colombo: Sri Lanka and China in recent years have developed increasingly closer economic and trade relations and a proposed free trade agreement between the two countries will boost Sri Lanka's future development, according to the government of Sri Lanka. Both Sri Lanka and China anticipate that Chinese President Xi Jinping's visit to the island tomorrow, a first by a Chinese head of state in 28 years, will expand cooperation and cement the ties in trade and economy between the two countries.

Traffic restriction in Sri Lankan capital tomorrow due to Chinese President's arrival

Sept 15, Colombo: Vehicle movement in the Sri Lankan capital, Colombo and on airport expressway will be restricted due to Chinese President's arrival tomorrow on a two-day official visit, the Police Headquarters announced. Accordingly, traffic will be restricted on Colombo-Katunayake Expressway, Baseline Road, Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Galle Road, Bambalapitiya and Galle Face from 10.30 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. Tuesday.

Sri Lanka opposition party MP's leg amputated after accident on Southern Expressway

Sept 08, Colombo: Parliamentarian of Sri Lanka main opposition United National Party Ajith Mannapperuma's right leg below the knee had been amputated as a result of the injuries he received in an accident yesterday. Mannapperuma was injured in a road accident Sunday on the Southern Expressway near the 40th kilometer post when his driver lost control of the vehicle and the vehicle collided with the guard rail on the side of the expressway.
