A little brown bat -- similar to the one pictured here -- was captured in the Mojave Desert recently after it flew onto a man's shirt.

They traveled more than 200 miles from the San Gabriel Valley to reach one of the darkest corners in Southern California.

Public health officials in Nevada and California are searching for a man who may have been exposed to rabies during an April 30 visit to Mojave National Preserve, 90 miles southwest of Las Vegas.

The bat landed on the man's neck on Tuesday, while he was outside the book store at Kelso Depot, near Mojave National Preserve.
