National team icon Stubby Clapp looks likely to miss Beijing Olympics
“They've denied him permission”
Several Canadian baseball players have had to choose between career and country in recent years and it looks like national team icon Stubby Clapp is the latest to face that dilemma.
The infielder is likely to miss this summer's Beijing Olympics in order to fulfil his responsibilities as a hitting coach in the Houston Astros organization.
The Astros have turned down a request to release the 35-year-old from his duties with the single-A Lexington Legends for July 28-Aug. 24, after earlier allowing him to leave for three weeks in the spring to play in the final qualifying tournament in Taiwan. Read more
