    Soccer friends mourn teen's death

    Two days after a 17-year-old Shawnee Heights High School senior died in a tragic accident at her Topeka home, friends on Thursday were left with lingering shock and questions surrounding the girl's death. Shaye Shelby, who played soccer at Shawnee Heights and was a May graduate in the Early Childhood Professional Program at Washburn Institute of Technology, died Tuesday at her home.

    Seaman High students undergo mock interviews

    For Seaman High School senior Kelsi Flowers, taking the next step in her young life seems a little less daunting, given she and several of her classmates have been the recent beneficiaries of advice and feedback from members of the Topeka business community. "I think it's a great way to talk to people to get to do real-life interviews," Flowers said, referring to the first-time event sponsored by Seaman High's Technical Writing and Communications in the Workplace class.

    53-year-old former pastor earns nursing degree

    Topeka resident Jim Aubey is the oldest member of the fall graduation class at Baker University School of Nursing at Stormont-Vail HealthCare and will graduate with a 4.0 grade-point average. Aubey, former pastor at Auburn Presbyterian Church, decided to change careers about three years ago.
