    The late Franciscan Father Albert Braun, who conceived the idea of building St. Joseph Apache Mission shortly after coming to the Mescalero Apache Reservation in 1916, certainly would be pleased to see that his creation continues to unite the community and its neighbors today, For more than 14 years, residents of Mescalero and supporters from around the state, the nation and even overseas, have come together to restore and preserve the massive stone church and its 50-foot high walls. While the restoration of the church that took 20 years to build before it was finished in 1939, is considered substantially completed, some projects still linger, Mary Serna, director/administrator of the restoration effort, said.

    Farmington man killed in motorcycle wreck Saturday

    A Farmington man was killed Saturday after the motorcycle he was riding failed to make a turn on a state highway south of here. The San Juan County Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched at 3:58 p.m. Saturday to mile marker 102 of N.M Highway 371, where Rodney Kramer was pronounced dead at the scene from substantial injuries after his motorcycle failed to negotiate a turn and left the roadway.

    Concert lights up holiday season

    The 2014 Winter Concert, performed by the Arkansas Valley Wind & Percussion Ensemble, entertained music lovers at Lamar High School Tuesday, Dec. 2. The jazz band, concert band and Main Street Bell Ringers did a great job with an array of holiday classics, including "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree, White Christmas, Here Comes Santa Claus, My Favorite Things and a medley of Christmas songs from the Charlie Brown Christmas classic. The performances were led by Jazz Band director Greg Ludwig, his wife, Concert Band director Christi Ludwig and Kathleen La Cost, who led the Main Street Ringers with Ludwig.

    Authorities say they're trying to determine if a fatal shooting at a Florida church is connected to additional victims at a home across town. The Manatee County Sheriff's Office says that deputies discovered the body at Bayshore Baptist Church in Bradenton Thursday afternoon.

    Marjorie Anne Morrissey of North Attleboro, a teacher, died unexpectedly Tuesday at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. She was 76. She was a 1956 graduate of St. Xavier's Academy in Providence and received a bachelor's degree in education from Rhode Island College, where she was the editor of the school newspaper.

    Dan Lancellotti, of Boca Raton, Fla., and New Seabury, Mass., passed away peacefully on Nov. 25, 2014, in the presence of his family on Cape Cod. Dan was born the seventh of 10 children to Angelina and Gaetano Lancellotti on July 21, 1920, and grew up in the Charles Street section of Providence, R.I. A gifted athlete, he played on the basketball, baseball, and tennis teams at Hope High.
