Bill Kortum, a longtime Sonoma County environmental activist, died early Saturday in Petaluma after battling prostate cancer for more than three years. He was 87. Mr. Kortum's extensive resume as an activist began in the 1960s and lists many of California's most important land-use campaigns. Comment?

Sharon Doughty, a third-generation Marin County native who made her mark as a dairy rancher and wine maker, co-founding Point Reyes Vineyards winery and inn, will be remembered at a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Petaluma. After running the Grandi Ranch dairy in Point Reyes Station for 25 years, she and her husband, Steve Doughty, planted the first sparkling wine grapes on the ranch in 1990. Comment?
