    Firefighters say Shaleita Lorrene Crosby was found unconscious in a back bedroom of the home, and was taken to Fort Sanders Hospital with cardiac, respiratory conditions. She died at the hospital and her family has been notified.

    Law enforcement agencies in the Knoxville area remembered peace officers that passed away during the annual Knoxville-Knox County Peace Officers' Memorial Service on Tuesday morning. Families of the officers were escorted to a memorial wreath where they placed a flower in memory of their loved ones at the Mary Costa Plaza at the Civic Coliseum at 10 a.m. The Knox County Sheriff's Office, Knoxville Police Department, University of Tennessee Police, University of Tennessee Medical Center Police, Tennessee Highway Patrol, TBI, FBI, and the Fraternal Order of Police Volunteer Lodge Number 2 participated in this annual event.

Guy Carawan, whose rendition of "We Shall Overcome" became a civil rights anthem, died on May 2, 2015, at age 87. Guy Carawan, a folk singer and social-justice advocate credited with turning the African-American spiritual "We Shall Overcome" into a unifying anthem of the 1960s civil rights movement, has died at 87. For years, Carawan was a leader of the Highlander Research and Education Center in Tennessee.
