    Funeral arrangements made for former Jersey City sch...

    The family of Charles T. Epps Jr., the former Jersey City schools superintendent who was found dead at 70 at his home Friday, has announced that his funeral will be held Saturday at St. Patrick's Church, at Bramhall and Ocean avenues in Jersey City, starting at 10 a.m. Visitation will be held at Zion Baptist Church, 521 Bramhall Ave., on Thursday, 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., and on Friday, 5 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to the "Charles T. Epps, Jr. Excellence Scholarship" fund to benefit a Jersey City public high school senior.

    JERSEY CITY -- The family of Charles T. Epps Jr., the former Jersey City schools superintendent who died at his home Tuesday at 70 , has announced that his funeral will be held Saturday at St. Patrick's Church, Bramhall and Ocean avenues, starting at 10 a.m. Visitation will be held at Zion Baptist Church, 521 Bramhall Ave., on Thursday, 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., and on Friday, 5 to 8 p.m. Epps' nearly 50-year career in the Jersey City public system began as a teacher at School 15. He served as superintendent of the state's second largest school system from 2000 to 2011.

    Family wants justice as Jersey City woman is buried ...

    A Jersey City woman whose remains were found in a Long Island marsh more than three years ago was laid to rest yesterday, with her grieving mother accusing police of mishandling the investigation into her death. Mary Gilbert, joined by three of her daughters and other family members at the Amityville Cemetery yesterday, demanded "equal justice" for her daughter Shannan Gilbert, a 23-year-old whose remains were found in December 2011 after she went missing 18 months earlier.

    A man described as homeless died Monday night while waiting to catch a bus to the warming center in Kearny, authorities confirmed, and a local homeless advocate is trying to locate any relatives. Ramesh Patel, 51, was found at the Port Authority Transportation Hub in Journal Square at 9 p.m., Port Authority police spokesman Joe Pentangelo said yesterday morning.

    Former Mayor of Jersey City, Anthony Cucci dies at 92

    Anthony Cucci, the former mayor, Downtown councilman and decorated war hero, died yesterday at Jersey City Medical Center-Barnabas Health. He was 92. Cucci, known to everyone as "Tony," was big-hearted and modest, "the people's mayor," according to Lou Manzo, a former state assemblyman who worked in the Cucci administration.

    Former Jersey City Mayor Anothony Cucci died at age 92 on Feb. 25. Cucci most recently served as trustee on the Jersey City Board of Education, but served as mayor twice, and as a city councilman, and a U.S. Marine. "I know I speak for the entire city when I say that we extend our thoughts, prayers, and everlasting appreciation to the Cucci family for Mayor Cuuci's service to our city," said Mayor Steven M. Fulop.

    JERSEY CITY - Anthony Cucci, the former mayor and Downtown councilman, died today at Jersey City Medical Center. He was 92. Cucci was first elected to the City Council representing Ward E in 1977.
