    Dad of school shooter remembers son 1 year later

    The father of a student who killed a classmate at a suburban Denver high school before committing suicide posted a newspaper obituary for his son on the anniversary of the shooting, saying he forgives his son and wants him remembered as a person "who lost his way for a moment." The Saturday obit came the same day a candlelight vigil was held for 17-year-old Claire Davis, the girl slain in the attack.

    The 73rd anniversary of the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor has been honored in Boston at a historic ship named for a Naval officer awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions that day. About 200 people attended on Sunday at the USS Cassin Young at the Charlestown Navy Yard in Boston National Historical Park.

    Norman Bridwell, Clifford creator, dead at 86

    Norman Bridwell, a soft-spoken illustrator whose impromptu story about a girl and her puppy marked the unlikely birth of the supersized franchise Clifford the Big Red Dog, has died at 86. Bridwell, who lived for decades in a house with a bright red door on Martha's Vineyard off Cape Cod in Massachusetts, died Friday at Martha's Vineyard Hospital, where he had been for about three weeks after a fall at home in Edgartown, his wife, Norma, said. He suffered from several ailments, including a recurrence of prostate cancer, she said.
