    John "Jack" Boerema, a man who spent decades serving the greater Grand Rapids community, died Friday, April 3. He was 85. In his earlier years, Boerema first served his country as a first lieutenant in the Army during the Korean War, according to his obituary . He attended both Michigan State University and the University of Michigan.

    Family of man who died after tasering nears settleme...

    The family of Matthew Bolick, who died after being tasered by East Grand Rapids police, has reached a confidential settlement with the city, the family's attorney said in court documents filed Wednesday, April 1. "Settlement negotiations between the parties have resulted in an agreed upon settlement of all claims against the City of East Grand Rapids and the parties have mutually agreed that the proposed settlement and distribution remain confidential," the family's attorney, William Mills, wrote in court records. Matthew Bolick, 30, died Nov. 16, 2009, during a psychotic episode.

    Elaine (Pritchard) Allchin, 92, Retired Bookkeeper

    Elaine Allchin, a Framingham resident for 23 years, died peacefully at her home on Monday March 30, 2015. She was 92. Allchin is survived by her son Keith Allchin and his wife Pat Walker of Framingham, her son James and his wife Catherine of Seattle, WA, and her four grandchildren: Braden, Adelyn, Aidan and Julian.

    He was born on February 16, 1964, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to Claude J. and Betty Lou Johnigan and they preceded him in death. Robert had lived in the Cadillac area all of his life and enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family.

    Helen was born February 5, 1924, in Middle Branch Township, to Samuel and Hope Hartzog. Helen entered into marriage with Ira G. Cook in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on July 2, 1965, whom preceded her in death in December of 1991.
