    Former Grand Haven woman killed while riding bike

    Investigators determined Daugavietis, 58, was riding south on Plainfield Avenue at about 11:20 p.m. when a southbound 2007 Saturn hit the bicyclist from behind. Police said the car's driver, 23-year-old Amy Vanderwal, told them that she did not see the bike.

    Longtime AP reporter Quane Kenyon dies

    Quane Kenyon, a retired Associated Press newsman who covered Idaho politics for 25 years, died of a heart attack at a Boise hospital on Tuesday. He was 76. Kenyon began his AP career as a copy boy in the Salt Lake City bureau.

    Two golfers are honoring the memory of their former coach with a fundraiser to get more kids involved in the sport. Marissa Smits and Nicole VanderYacht, seniors at South Christian High School, are holding a breakfast on March 7 at Peppino's Sports Grille and Pizzeria in Grand Rapids as part of senior project to honor former coach and math teacher Rod VanDyke who was struck and killed while riding his bike Oct. 7, 2014.

Gray, PhD, a professor of occupational therapy who worked tirelessly to improve the lives of people with disabilities, died Thursday, Feb.12, 2015, in St. Louis of an apparent heart attack. He was 71. Gray, who also was a professor of neurology at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, became motivated to change what it means to be disabled after he was paralyzed in 1976 in a fall from a roof that broke his neck.

    A woman who ran a day care where a 3-month-old boy allegedly died told a state licensing consultant she had feared an infant would die in her care, a report states. Teresa Mowers operated Bridges Day Care on Pinetree Avenue in Kentwood, where authorities allege 3-month-old Cooper Fales died Feb. 19. He spent the day at the in-home day care and was later found "blue and unresponsive" by his parents at their Grand Rapids home, according to a DHS special investigation report that led to the revocation of Mowers' child care license.
