Machonis, who died after a difficult illness in 1988 after just a few years of marriage; and Harry P. Hawkes Sr., who died suddenly in 1978 after nearly 30 years of marriage. She leaves three children: Catherine L. Hawkes of Philadelphia, Allison P. Hawkes of Orange and Harry P. Hawkes Jr. of Hunting Valley and three grandchildren Elizabeth, Lauren and Harry III and her nephew Alan Lodge and niece Ruth Arnold .
