    Photo provided by Christopher Turner -- Local artist Taufeeq Muhammad, known for his paintings of jazz and lbues musicians, died Jan. 9 at age 39. A memorial service is scheduled Thursday. Baton Rouge artist Taufeeq Muhammad loved music and wanted viewers to be able to get a glimpse of that love by painting musicians in an animated style that made him well known in the arts community.

    1 dead in early-morning Decatur house fire

    Authorities say one person has died in a house fire on Decatur's east side during the early-morning hours of December 24. Decatur police say at about 1:08 a.m., the Decatur Fire Department responded to a report of a house being on fire in the 2400 block of East Main Street. While attempting to put out the fire, firefighters entered the home and removed a person from inside.
