    Cubs legend Ernie Banks died of heart attack

    The lawyer for the family of Chicago Cubs great Ernie Banks said Sunday that the legendary player died Friday after suffering a heart attack, just a week short of his 84th birthday. Banks passed away Friday at 83 after a storied 19-year playing career and 40-plus years as an ambassador for baseball and the city of Chicago.

    Chicago Cubs great Ernie Banks died after a heart attack, an attorney representing the Hall of Famer's family said Sunday. With Banks' widow standing nearby at a news conference at a downtown hotel, Mark Bogen said Banks had the heart attack Friday in Chicago and died later that day.

    If you want to help join in on the public celebration of the life and career of Ernie Banks, here's what is happening this week, and I figured it simply best to post the details as they were sent in a press release from the Cubs : The Chicago Cubs and Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced today that Ernie Banks' Wrigley Field statue will be placed in Daley Plaza this week from Wednesday morning through Saturday, allowing fans to honor and remember the Hall of Famer. Banks passed away Friday night after suffering cardiac arrest at the age of 83. Banks became the first player in Cubs history to be honored with a statue at Wrigley Field in 2008.

    Reel life: Woodstock Theatre honors Harold Ramis

    A Woodstock Theatre auditorium will be dedicated to the memory of Chicago filmmaker Harold Ramis at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, followed by a free showing of his 1993 comedy classic, "Groundhog Day," filmed in Woodstock, playing the role of Punxsutawney.     Tootsie Roll CEO Melvin Gordon dies at 95

    Melvin J. Gordon ran Chicago-based candy-maker Tootsie Roll Industries for more than 50 years and held the distinction of being the oldest CEO of any business listed on the New York Stock Exchange or the Nasdaq Stock Market. Mr. Gordon, 95, died Tuesday, Jan. 20, in Boston after a short illness, said his wife, Ellen, Tootsie Roll Industries' president and chief operating officer.

    Former Lake Forest Hospital President Dies

    Irving Seaman, Jr., 91, longtime Chicago businessman and civic leader, died on January 14, 2015 at home in Lake Forest with his wife Barbara and his family by his side. Originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he attended the Milwaukee Country Day School, 'Irv' went to Yale University, Class of '44, where he was Chairman of the Yale Daily and graduated with a B.A. He joined the Navy, serving in WWII as a Lieutenant on the USS Lindsey, a destroyer in the Pacific Theater, which took part in the battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa.
