    A San Diego native who once served as governor of Illinois died this week at the age of 92. Dan Walker passed away Wednesday at his home in Chula Vista. He graduated from San Diego High School in 1940 as class valedictorian and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

And in the chilly evening weather, the 23-year-old son of the late chef Charlie Trotter was opening the door for diners and hoped to help as the restaurant's chefs cooked a tribute dinner in honor of Cantu.
