    Mary Ruth Duff 1941-2014

    She was an accomplished artist in oil painting and pencil art. She was a very creative person in decorating floral arrangements for weddings and such.

    Laurie was a wonderful wife and best friend who will be dearly missed. She enjoyed gardening and would often visit nursing homes and hospitals to bring flowers and spread joy or share a kind word wherever she could.

    Judges back Chambersburg on fire union fights

    The borough released a statement Friday night that judges on the Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania and the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas sided with it in separate rulings. In one case, Franklin County President Judge Richard Herman on Nov. 17 overturned a clause in what the borough calls the Richard Kasher Arbitration Decision that would prevent the borough from laying off firefighters.

    Model railroad open house in December and January

    CHAMBERSBURG >> Cumberland Valley Model Railroad Club, 440 Nelson St., will open its doors for Christmas showings Dec. 14, 21 and 28, and Jan. 3, 10 and 18. Club members have built layouts that feature G-scale trains, O-gauge track, HO-scale layout with some 40 scale miles of track and other scale models. Featured will be a section Chambersburg as it looked in the 1960s along the Western Maryland right-of-way: wash your car at the Siloam dam, pick up feed at Walker Brothers, get gas at HL Mills or get a cone with the curl on top at Dairy Queen.

    Mary L. "Weezie" Miller, registered nurse

    Mary L. "Weezie" Miller, a retired registered nurse who had worked for three decades as a head nurse in methadone maintenance programs, died Nov. 21 at Stella Maris Hospice of kidney failure. She was 92. The daughter of Charles Thomas Frock, a pharmacist who was sheriff of Fayette County, Pa., and Mary Hyatt Frock, a homemaker, Mary Louise Frock was born in Uniontown, Pa., and raised in nearby Farmington, Pa.

    Greencastle man killed in 3-vehicle collision

    Pennsylvania State Police, Chambersburg, said Leaman E. Petersen, 76, was pronounced dead at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown following the crash at 6:51 p.m. Wednesday at 12876 Molly Pitcher Highway, Antrim Township. Police said John T. Becknell III, 47, Greencastle was slowing down in the southbound lane for a vehicle in front of him that was turning left.

    Susan Kelly, wife of Harold Kelly, dies

    Susan M. Kelly, 74, the wife of horseman Harold Kelly, died Thursday, Nov. 27. Mrs. Kelly was retired, after working side by side with her husband for many years in the Standardbred business. In addition to her husband of 57 years, Mrs. Kelly is survived by daughters Linda Moyer and Deborah Owens; grandchildren,Scott Moyer, Sean Moyer, Alan Wroblewski and Brianne Schmidt; great-granddaughters, Kaylee Moyer and Mackenzie Moyer;sister, Golly Wells; and many nieces and nephews.

    Phyllis L. Chewning

    Phyllis is survived by two brothers, Carlton B. Chewning Jr. and wife Frances of Orange, and Alvin W. Chewning of Spotsylvania County; four sisters, Loretta Williams of Chambersburg, Pa., Barbara Chewning and husband Sonny of Unionville, Gloria Pickering and husband Robert of Fredericksburg, and Anna Uridel of Stanley. She was also preceded in death by a brother, John Chewning, and a sister, Clara Powell.
