    Vigil held to remember former Blazer Torrey Ward

    The community held a vigil in memory of Torrey Ward's memory on Friday at 8 p.m. Alumni from Ward's high school hosted the vigil in front of the YMCA Youth Center . If the weather is bad, the vigil will move inside the YMCA.

    Small plane crashes after NCAA title game, killing I...

    A private plane returning from the NCAA basketball tournament in Indianapolis crashed in a central Illinois field on Tuesday, killing all seven people on board, including Illinois State University's associate head basketball coach and a deputy athletics director. Rescue personnel found no survivors at the site near the city of Bloomington, and a coroner pronounced the seven occupants dead, McLean County Sheriff Jon Sandage said at a news conference.

    Andy Butler thrived on sports and relationships with friends - many, many friends who are mourning the loss of the fun-loving 40-year-old Champaign native who was one of seven who died Monday night in a plane crash east of Bloomington. Justin Kirby of Champaign has known Butler since his elementary school days at St. Thomas, where he played basketball and ran track against Butler, who attended St. Matthew.

    A private airplane returning from the NCAA men's basketball championship crashed early Tuesday on approach to a central Illinois airport, killing all seven on board, including two members of Illinois State University's athletics department. The airplane had left Indianapolis about an hour before it crashed roughly 2-1/2 miles from its destination, the Central Illinois Regional Airport in Bloomington, Illinois, about 160 miles to the west, officials said.

    Two members of Illinois State University's athletic department were among seven people killed when a small plane crashed near Bloomington, Illinois early Tuesday morning. University President Larry Dietz confirmed that Aaron Leetch and Torrey Ward were among those killed as a Cessna 414, returning from the Final Four in Indianapolis, crashed just short of the Central Illinois Regional Airport after midnight.

    Former Florida coach and athletic director Ray Graves, who helped the Gators reach national prominence in the 1960s, has died at 96. The school says Graves died early Friday in the Tampa area. South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier, who coached the Gators for 12 years and won the 1966 Heisman Trophy as a player under Graves, calls his college coach "a tremendous influence on my life."
