    Father in custody in case of infant's death in Batavia

    A Batavia man is in the Genesee County Jail tonight, charged with manslaughter in the second degree in connection with the death this weekend of an infant, according to local law enforcement sources. Chief Shawn Heubusch has scheduled a 10 a.m. press conference to discuss the case, but has not replied to e-mails tonight seeking comment on the arrest of Jeffrey L. Deats, 27, of Olyn Ave., Batavia.

    Arrangements announced for Bill Brown

    The Knights of Columbus will hold a prayer service on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Notre Dame High School, 73 Union St., or the Jerome Foundation, 16 Bank St., both Batavia, NY 14020.

    Hall of Famer William Brown died, age 91

    HARRISBURG PA William F. Brown Jr., 91, a member of the Communicators Hall of Fame and a Director of the United States Harness Writers Association for over a half-century, passed away Saturday night at Rochester General Hospital, near his hometown of Batavia NY. Brown first became a member of the USHWA Board in 1963, representing the Western New York Chapter, and three years later he was elected National Secretary of harness racing's major media organization a position which he would hold until 2002, after which he was Executive Secretary of the Association for 11 years.

    Arthur Dillon

    He was born on February 7, 1929, in Batavia, NY, the son of the late Hazel Durham and Ralston V. Dillon. Art was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Columbiana and was a veteran of the United States Army having served with the Honor Guard in Washington, D.C. during the Korean War.

    Carrie J. Trippy, 97, of Jefferson Street, Westfield, died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014, at The Lutheran Home of Jamestown, N.Y. Carrie was born April 14, 1917, in Batavia, N.Y., the daughter of the late Nicholas and Mary Gervasi.
