    Man charged in death of 72-year-old man found in car...

    A Cary man has been arrested and charged with murder after the body of a 72-year-old man was found in a car near a shopping center. Police told local media that 53-year-old Dwight Anthony Blount of Cary was arrested around 11 p.m. Sunday.

    Man shot to death in robbery in Winston-Salem

    Police in Winston-Salem say a man has been found shot to death after a report of an armed robbery at his home. Police told local media that 35-year-old Chester Robert Garnes III was found near the back of his home shortly before 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

    Police say the charges against two men accused of attacking and beating a wildlife officer have been upgraded to attempted murder. WYFF-TV reports Officer Aaron Stronach was patrolling trout fishing on the Green River Game Lands in Henderson County on Saturday when police say two men attacked him.

    Bank of the Carolinas to be sold to Arkansas-based bank

    The Charlotte Observer reports Bank of the Ozarks and Bank of the Carolinas announced Wednesday they have signed a deal for Arkansas-based Bank of the Ozarks to buy the Mocksville-based holding company and its banking subsidiary. The deal still requires approval from regulators and Bank of the Carolinas shareholders.

    65-year-old man struck, killed by Amtrak train in Me...

    Police say a 65-year-old man has died after being hit by an Amtrak train while crossing the railroad tracks on his daily walk. Multiple news outlets report 65-year-old Charlie Andrew Johnson died Wednesday afternoon in Mebane after being struck by the Piedmont, a train headed from Charlotte to Raleigh.

    Father of infant admits to killing her with kitchen ...

    The Onslow County Sheriff says the father of an infant who died over the weekend has admitted to killing the child with a kitchen knife. WECT-TV reports Ruby Rayne Young, who turned one in March, died Sunday morning after suffering severe loss of blood from a single laceration.

    Debra Austin Leighton

    With a heavy heart but feeling so, so lucky to have had her in our lives for as long as we did, we share with you that Debra Austin Leighton died peacefully Thursday, April 23, 2015, surrounded by the love and support of so many of her family and friends. She is survived by her husband, David Leighton of Fairlawn, Va.; her children, Nicki Leighton, Jeremy Leighton and Shanna Leighton; parents Bunk and Mary Austin of Radford, Va.; sister Donna Wickline of Radford; brother Greg Austin of Asheville, N.C.; grandchildren Eleanor Scardina, and McKenzie and Mareya Leighton; and many other loving relatives, friends and children she took into the home and loved.
