Maple Leafs defenceman Pavel Kubina sustains MCL injury to right knee
- Defenceman Pavel Kubina has been knocked out of the Toronto Maple Leafs lineup indefinitely with a medial collateral ligament injury to his right knee.
Kubina was injured during Toronto's 3-2 loss to the New York Rangers on Saturday night.
The 30-year-old is in his second season with the Maple Leafs. He had one goal and 11 points in 18 games this season. Read more

Kane Leads Blackhawks Past Red Wings
NHL rookie scoring leader Patrick Kane had a power-play goal and an assist to help the Chicago Blackhawks beat Detroit 3-2 on Sunday night, ending the Red Wings' record-tying winning streak at nine games.
Yanic Perreault and rookie Jonathan Toews also scored, and Jason Williams and Robert Lang each had two assists for the Blackhawks in their third straight victory and third of the season over Detroit.
Jiri Hudler and Nicklas Lidstrom scored for the Red Wings, 13-3-1 overall. Anaheim is the only other team to have beaten Detroit so far. Read more

Mason Stymies Blue Jackets in Shootout
Chris Mason stopped all three shootout attempts and Martin Erat scored the only goal in the tiebreaker to lift the Nashville Predators over the Columbus Blue Jackets 4-3 Saturday night.
Erat, who beat Fredrik Norrena high, was the second shooter for Nashville.
Radek Bonk gave the Predators a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal 9:05 into the first period. Dan Hamhuis took a shot, and Bonk took control of the long rebound in the slot and beat Norrena low to his glove side with a backhander. Read more

Kings Score 5 in 3rd, Beat Stars in OT
Anze Kopitar scored during Los Angeles' five-goal rally in the third period against Dallas goalie Marty Turco, then connected again 2:34 into overtime to give the Kings an improbable 6-5 victory over the Stars on Saturday night.
Playing their first game in seven days, the Kings seemed out of the game after Jeff Halpern's goal gave Dallas a 4-0 cushion with 2:12 left in the second period. Turco stopped the first 27 shots he faced, then the Stars collapsed. The Stars had won 34 consecutive games in which they had a lead of more than one goal. Read more

Timonen's 4 Points Lift Flyers Over Pens
Kimmo Timonen had a goal and three assists, and the Philadelphia Flyers took advantage on four power plays in beating the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-2 on Saturday night.
Mike Knuble, Joffrey Lupul, Danny Briere, and Scott Hartnell also scored for the Flyers, who built a 3-0 lead in the first 26 minutes.
Hartnell's goal, his first with the Flyers, was scored into an empty-netter. Mike Richards added three assists.
Evgeni Malkin and Sergei Gonchar scored for Pittsburgh, which dropped its third straight game. It is the Penguins' worst pointless streak since they lost three in a row last December. Read more

Satan's Winner Beats Brodeur and Devils
Miroslav Satan scored his third straight winning goal and the New York Islanders denied Devils goalie Martin Brodeur his 500th NHL victory with a 2-1 win over New Jersey on Saturday night.
Josef Vasicek also scored for the Islanders, who won their fourth in a row and finished a six-game homestand with five wins. Rick DiPietro turned aside 19 shots for his eighth win this season, and 98th in the NHL. He made a huge stick save on Brian Gionta with 25 seconds left to preserve the win.

Modano's Record Goals Lead Stars
Mike Modano became the highest-scoring American in NHL history the same way he does most everything else on ice _ very quickly.
Modano scored two goals in the first 4:24 to surpass Phil Housley's career record for points by a U.S.-born player, and the Dallas Stars beat the San Jose Sharks 3-1 Wednesday night.
Modano, the 37-year-old Michigan native who has been the star of Stars for nearly two decades in Minnesota and Dallas, tied the mark with a long slap shot past Evgeni Nabokov just 2:19 in. Sabres Tim Connolly, Adam Mair out indefinitely with injuries
Sabres centers Tim Connolly and Adam Mair are out indefinitely, marking the latest blow to a once-dominant team that has struggled to start the season.
Coach Lindy Ruff said Tuesday that both will be out after Connolly strained his abdomen and Mair sprained his right ankle in a 2-0 loss at Montreal a day earlier. Ruff said Connolly would 'miss some time,' but was more concerned about Mair's injury, saying the gritty fourth-line player will be out for weeks.
Mair did not return after he was hurt in the second period. Connolly continued playing after he was hurt early in the third period, but Ruff said the injury worsened after the team returned home. Read more

Senators lead all NHL teams with six players on ballot for 2008 all-star game
- The Ottawa Senators lead all teams with six players on the ballot for the 2008 NHL all-star game.
Ottawa forwards Dany Heatley, Jason Spezza and Daniel Alfredsson are joined by goaltender Ray Emery and defencemen Chris Phillips and Wade Redden. The Senators lead the NHL's overall standings.
The all-star game will be played Jan. 27 at Phillips Arena in Atlanta. The starting lineup for each conference is determined by the fans, with voting to begin Nov. 13.
For the second straight year, fan balloting will be entirely digital. Last year, an Internet campaign nearly saw Vancouver Canucks defenceman Rory Fitzpatrick voted a starter for the Western Conference as a write-in candidate. Read more

Huet Gets Canadiens First Shutout
Cristobal Huet made 29 saves for his first shutout in nearly a year and Tomas Plekanec scored in the second period to send the Montreal Canadiens on to a 2-0 win over the Buffalo Sabres on Monday night.
Huet stopped 16 shots in the first period on his way to his 14th career shutout. It was his first since Nov. 28 when he beat Florida 1-0 in a shootout.
Plekanec scored his fourth goal of the season on a 2-on-1 at 13:04 of the second.
The Canadiens, who have won six of eight (6-1-1), were outshot 9-1 in the third period before Bryan Smolinski scored into an empty net with 21.8 seconds remaining. Read more
