Kings Score 5 in 3rd, Beat Stars in OT

Anze Kopitar scored during Los Angeles' five-goal rally in the third period against Dallas goalie Marty Turco, then connected again 2:34 into overtime to give the Kings an improbable 6-5 victory over the Stars on Saturday night.

Playing their first game in seven days, the Kings seemed out of the game after Jeff Halpern's goal gave Dallas a 4-0 cushion with 2:12 left in the second period. Turco stopped the first 27 shots he faced, then the Stars collapsed. The Stars had won 34 consecutive games in which they had a lead of more than one goal. Read more

Modano's Record Goals Lead Stars

Mike Modano became the highest-scoring American in NHL history the same way he does most everything else on ice _ very quickly.

Modano scored two goals in the first 4:24 to surpass Phil Housley's career record for points by a U.S.-born player, and the Dallas Stars beat the San Jose Sharks 3-1 Wednesday night.

Modano, the 37-year-old Michigan native who has been the star of Stars for nearly two decades in Minnesota and Dallas, tied the mark with a long slap shot past Evgeni Nabokov just 2:19 in. The speedy center added a short-handed goal moments later, earning grudging applause from the Shark Tank crowd for the longtime foe's latest remarkable feat. Read more

Sabres Tim Connolly, Adam Mair out indefinitely with injuries

Sabres centers Tim Connolly and Adam Mair are out indefinitely, marking the latest blow to a once-dominant team that has struggled to start the season.

Coach Lindy Ruff said Tuesday that both will be out after Connolly strained his abdomen and Mair sprained his right ankle in a 2-0 loss at Montreal a day earlier. Ruff said Connolly would 'miss some time,' but was more concerned about Mair's injury, saying the gritty fourth-line player will be out for weeks.

Mair did not return after he was hurt in the second period. Connolly continued playing after he was hurt early in the third period, but Ruff said the injury worsened after the team returned home. Read more

Senators lead all NHL teams with six players on ballot for 2008 all-star game

- The Ottawa Senators lead all teams with six players on the ballot for the 2008 NHL all-star game.

Ottawa forwards Dany Heatley, Jason Spezza and Daniel Alfredsson are joined by goaltender Ray Emery and defencemen Chris Phillips and Wade Redden. The Senators lead the NHL's overall standings.

The all-star game will be played Jan. 27 at Phillips Arena in Atlanta. The starting lineup for each conference is determined by the fans, with voting to begin Nov. 13.

For the second straight year, fan balloting will be entirely digital. Last year, an Internet campaign nearly saw Vancouver Canucks defenceman Rory Fitzpatrick voted a starter for the Western Conference as a write-in candidate. Read more
