Right now, Purdue seems to be atop the NFL as QBs and winning are concerned. I attended school with Alstott at Purdue and many said he would not be an NFL player. I will go a step further, Purdue has some of the top linemen in the NFL and Woodson & Bob Griese have seen perfect seasons. Tiller made a lot of players before leaving.
In the 80s it was BYU. The USC QBs of the 2000s seem to be flops, minus Palmer. Elliott at Purdue right now has virtually no support but who knows, he made shine one day. Also, the first man on the moon was a Purdue Grad and the last man on the moon was a Purdue Grad; I say no more. "Worlds Biggest Drum"

Painter has yet to take a snap in a regular season NFL game.
I believe he will most likely be the starter for the Colts when Peyton retires many years from now.
But, until that day comes. It's 2 from Purdue. While the best 1 in the NFL is from Tennessee.

Even though this is changing the premise of my comment, I'll bite.

Yes, It's true that Brees and Orton are both starting QBs in the NFL. Both play for teams doing very well. However, we both know that only one of them is considered a bonafide starter.

Orton is a game manager, not breaker, and is serviceable, at best. He will be fighting for the starting position wherever he is, for the rest of his career. This time next year, Denver will have traded for, or drafted, another QB, and there will be open competition for the starting position.

With that in mind, it appears that USC is doing as well in the current QB department. USC's Carson Palmer is one fluke play from being undefeated (as Denver is that same fluke play from being a 2 loss team), and Sanchez is 4-4 in his rookie season. Not bad. All that, in addition to, Matt Leinart as the #2 in Arizona. Sorry, but Painter as the #3 in Indy just doesn't stack up.

Now you're changing the premise of the article.

I don't know what "many" you're speaking of with regard to Alstott's NFL acumen. He was a consensus all-Big Ten his senior year and was the all-time Purdue rushing leader. On top of that, he was drafted in the 2nd round (35th overall). That's an awfully high draft position for someone who "many" thought wouldn't make it in the NFL.

As far as the number of players from a single college that played on perfect teams go, you forget that Earl Morrall QB'd nine of those perfect games in '72 and he was a Michigan State guy. There were, also, just as many Utah, Notre Dame, and Bethune-Cookman players on that team as Purdue grads.

Young and McMahon were great QBs from BYU, but the Detmers never amounted to much.

The USC QBs of the 2000s are much younger than the Purdue QBs you're comparing them to. Carson Palmer is, obviously, an excellent QB, but so is Sanchez. He has done much more with much less than Orton had his rookie season in Chicago. Give him a couple of seasons.

I don't quite understand how this response fits the article, or this thread. This article was not an "All Things Purdue" article. It was about current NFL QBs who matriculated at Purdue.

There are many universities that have just as many (if not more) famous alumni than Purdue, including, almost all of the Ivy League schools, and even my alma mater, Ohio State. And, let's not forget, while we're talking about marching bands, one of the most famous formations in the world, "Script Ohio".

We can throw balls 80 yards, put people on the moon, perform astrophysics. O ur cheerleaders are beautiful, no aids like USC and Michigan.
