I would recommend checking South Padre's website,http://www.sopadre.com . Right now it says "We are restricting access to the Island to people who need to be here. Law enforcement officials will be checking people crossing the causeway. Please do not add to the challenges we have facing by coming here at this time. " Maybe by next week it will be different, but if not maybe you might think about going to Corpus Christi and Mustang Island instead. The beaches are not as pretty as on SPI but it is still a great place. I have a trip planned to SPI in mid August and I am wondering if it would be a good idea to go or not too.

I used to own a condo at Bahia Mar. Anyone know how that facility rode out the storm?

We have a place at the Tiki, and from the news I've seen, as well as contacts, Bahia Mar took the biggest hit of any place on the island. It is really bad there.

South Padre will be just fine. Things are already turning around as it was not as bad as predicted. If you are really interested in helping our economy, take a vacation there in the next few weeks. You will get great prices and find out what most Texans already know: South Padre has great people, seafood, and fishing.

Best,

Does anyone know how the Suntide II complex is? We own a condo there and management isn't answering the phones (not that I can blame them - I'm sure they've got plenty of stuff to worry about right now).
Thanks

I own a condo there that I just bought this last year and just got a call from the management (Sunday Morning July 27), water damage and possibly electrical damage to our 4th floor unit. All electric and phone is off and still out on the island according to her. May be back on by tomorrow. She said I should make a trip down to take pictures for insurance, but all hotels are filled out to Keysville, where she is currently staying. A lot of residents with no place to live at the moment. I live in IL so it is a long trip for me to take a few pictures. I will probably hold off a few days until I hear more or until I know I can get back on the island and do something useful. If you are a condo owner and want to send me email and converse about suntide II email me at reddesertrain at gmail dot com.

South Padre Island isn't allowing anyone to go onto the island, unless they live or work there.

I believe that is due to power failure. I have heard the beaches have weathered the storm well.
Our representative from Padre Island Rentals told me that we would most likely be able to come down on the 2nd (as long as the power is restored). There was a town meeting and the reps at the meeting in S.Padre stated that all power would be back on by the 1st of August. Several businesses and restaurants are already open.

How did the Sheraton Hotel on South Padre make out, we have a trip planned in a couple of weeks. Newspeople would talk about and show some damage at some hotels but didn't name them.

Our family has been going to SPI for all my life, and I am now 50. Neither my mother nor I have ever remember the Island being closed for so long. I feel sorry for all those little businesses on the island.

We are suppose to stay at The Radisson, started this coming Saturday, but this looks like the first year in a very long time that we will not be going. We are already having Whiskey Shack withdrawals. lol "Rudy" if you see this, the Foxes will come if time provides.

Here's wishing our second home and extended family can put Humpty Dumpty together again.
