Torrential rain kills 28 in south China
Torrential rains that killed 28 people in southern China were forecast Wednesday to continue for the next three days.
Eighteen people have died in flooding in southern Guizhou province since Sunday, the official Xinhua News Agency reported late Tuesday. Twelve were missing.
More than 500,000 people in 17 cities and counties in Guizhou were affected, the news agency said. About 6,700 houses were damaged since rains started to fall.
Meanwhile, three people were killed by thunder and lightning after a storm in central Hubei province, the report said. It did not say when they died.

3 injured when tree hits theme park trolley
Officials at a Branson, Missouri theme park say three people were injured when high winds knocked part of a tree onto a trolley.
Thunderstorms caused many patrons at the Silver Dollar City park to leave or seek shelter Sunday afternoon.
Spokeswoman Lisa Rau says a 20-foot-long section of a tree fell onto a trolley taking people back to their cars at about 5 p.m.
Rau says a 36-year-old pregnant woman was taken to the hospital by ambulance. An 8-year-old girl and her mother also were injured.

Severe storms damage buildings in Iowa, Minnesota
Large hail and reported tornadoes damaged a grain elevator in Iowa and tore up homes in Minnesota on Sunday as severe thunderstorms moved across the Midwest.
The Butler County sheriff's department said a possible tornado touched down in northeast Iowa, and authorities were investigating some reports of injuries. There were reports of damage to Parkersburg, Iowa, a town of roughly 1,000, and rural areas outside of town.
North of the Twin Cities, multiple homes were damaged in Hugo, which appeared to be the hardest hit, the National Weather Service said. There were no immediate reports of injuries.
