2 If the Church can't abide by the laws......then maybe they shouldn't be taking the City's funds. |

2 The leadership of this archdiocese is obviously desperate. They are losing their undeserved influence in our government and are trying some kind of "hail mary" strategy (haha, pun intended!) to spend their last shred of political power so they can continue to push their beliefs on everyone else. This is a desperate measure on their part and will harm them badly when they lose. |

1 Actually the Catholic church contributes quite a bit and usually without advertisement or acknowledgment. If they retract their aid it will be a great loss and they know it. Otherwise they wouldn't have used it as an ultimatum. I find it quite sad however that the church would dangle the welfare of thousands of homeless people on an issue that is completely unrelated to the people they suppose to be helping. A final note, If the church chooses not to open it's building's to ALL community organizations, then it shouldn't be receiving money from the tax payers it's discriminating against. |

3 Why on earth would you give up helping people to hurt another group of people? I agree with other statements posted, if the Church and all the other denominations want to play in the field of civil law then off with their tax exempt status!!!! |

1 For me, whatever. If they want to give ultimata like this one, tax them, they're lobbying. If they want their special right not to be taxed, the can STFU! Maybe we need to do a referendum on removing the tax exempt status of churches... |

4 The Catholic church never turns away money. If they do this time there will be other, non discriminatory, charities waiting in line on the city hall steps to apply for the additional funds. |

1 The only thing unprecedented here is the scope of services being abandoned. This is exactly what Catholic Charities did in Massachusetts: After quietly placing children in same-sex households [when it was in the best interest of the child, even given their narrow point of view], it suddenly became impossible for them to continue their adoption services in a state that recognized those prospective parents as "married." Their little tantrum has played quite well in the "we Christians are SOOO discriminated against" circuit, so now they're upping the ante. The want to be able to stomp around the country showing how gays who want to marry have forced them to abandon their entire array of social services. Why those evil homosexuals are the very cause of homelessness and hunger.... |
