Inside the Numbers: Texas vs. UCLA

The Horns show improvement following the last week's debacle against the Cougars, but it's not enough to take down a Brett Hundley-less Bruins in Jerry World. Following a gut wrenching loss like that , it's tough to draw clear conclusions about program direction and progress.

Burnt orange named best team color in college football by USA Today

Not only do the Texas Longhorns make more money on merchandising than any other school associated with IMG College Sports, but the Horns football team also has the best team color in college football , according to USA Today. Some notable schools missing from the list include Penn State, Florida State, and UCLA, three schools that I would probably rank ahead of schools like Michigan State and at least the Halloween-looking uniforms worn by Oregon State.

The Jason Hall Experience at Texas shaping up as a fun, bumpy ride

After earning first-team snaps during fall camp following a high school career that saw him rated as a consensus low-three-star prospect, Hall seemed to fall behind sophomore safeties Adrian Colbert and Dylan Haines when the season started against North Texas and the South Grand Prairie product was nowhere to be found except on special teams. Noticing the arrival of the 6'2, 207-pounder wasn't difficult, especially for Bruins players who felt the impact of several big hits when Hall got playing time early in the second quarter after it became apparent that UCLA was going to heavily feature the running game with back-up quarterback Jerry Neuheisel in for star starter Brett Hundley .

Aggies still have room for improvement

Texas A&M is becoming a more popular pick currently when it comes to projecting things like the SEC championship game participants or the four teams who will make the College Football Playoff field. Malcome Kennedy and the Aggies are sitting at 3-0, but there's still plenty of course corrections to be made on the field this season.

Tyrone Swoopes, Texas Offense Still Limited But Improving

The immediate forecast for the Longhorns offense is pretty grim, but the long-term outlook is sunnier after Saturday night. Although his developmental curve is likely too gradual to avoid a rough showing in the standings this season, Tyrone Swoopes' second career start was impressive and encouraging in a number of different ways -- and very nearly enough to steal the upset when UCLA lost Hundley for the game.

Texas A&M freshman Garrett leads SEC in sacks

Texas A&M's Myles Garrett has already tied the school record for sacks by a freshman with 5 A1 2 and he's only played three games for the seventh-ranked Aggies. He has more sacks than any A&M defender had all last season and is just 2 A1 2 shy of tying the eight sacks Jadeveon Clowney, the top overall pick in this year's NFL draft, had as a freshman at South Carolina.
