The Pirates return home after salvaging their final game of a three game road trip, defeating Rutgers on Wednesday night.

He scored a season-high 18 points on 7-for-7 shooting, but that wasn't the sweet thing about Wednesday night for University of South Florida senior guard Hugh Robertson.

The Marshall men's basketball team departed Yeager Airport on Tuesday afternoon, bound for Orlando, Fla., for tonight's rivalry game at Central Florida.

Hugh Robertson had a season-high 18 points and Anthony Collins scored five of his 11 in the final 2:13 to help South Florida top Pittsburgh.

After his return sparked a four-game win streak for Pitt, the point guard got into foul trouble in the team's most recent game and had to watch from the sidelines as the Panthers lost on the road to South Florida, 63-51. The Big East Player of the Week picked up his third personal early in the second half and was immediately benched.

After starting off the season 11-1, including a stretch in which the team won nine straight games, Pittsburgh lost its next eight games.

Following the team's eighth consecutive loss against Louisville on Jan. 21, the players and coaches decided to forget about all of their struggles and pretend to begin a new season.

You might remember my last column on Pitt basketball. It began by warning readers not to expect to see Pitt in the NCAA Tournament this year.

Pitt lost eight straight games this season. They started off Big East play with seven consecutive losses.

What a difference a few weeks makes eh? To quote Jon Hey, the announcer for NBA JAM, Pitt was heating up and is now on officially on fire.

It was fitting that on Super Bowl Sunday, Pitt's long bomb touchdown late in the fourth quarter sealed a 79-70 win against visiting Villanova at the Pederson Events Center Sunday afternoon.
