While the three former Michigan State quarterbacks who each won games for their respective NFL teams garnered the most attention among Spartan fans, several other former Spartans also had solid games in Week 2 of the NFL schedule. That included former Michigan State safety Trenton Robinson, who helped his former teammate Kirk Cousins out by recording a his first career interception in Washington's 41-10 win over Jacksonville.
Combine a top-15 team coming off a Rose Bowl win and a historically bad team coming off a 2-10 season and what do you get? The Spartans opened Sunday as 45-point favorites against Eastern Michigan, their noon Saturday opponent. That's the largest point spread in a Michigan State game in at least 21 years, according to data from The Gold Sheet, which goes back until 1993.
At the beginning of each week, we'll take an early look at Michigan State's upcoming opponent by zeroing in on some interesting numbers. The Eagles' rank nationally in scoring offense through the first three weeks of the season.
Week 2 of the NFL season brought a much-needed transition from off-the-field turmoil to on-field action. After Sunday's games, yet another chapter in the 2014 season was written.
The Kirk Cousins era has arrived for the Washington Redskins, and the former Holland Christian and Michigan State quarterback will find out if he's prepared for what's ahead, both on and off the field. The Redskins lost starter Robert Griffin III to an apparent dislocated ankle during the first quarter of Sunday's game against visiting Jacksonville.
A NEW STREAK? A 46-27 loss at Oregon ended MSU's 11-game winning streak, and Saturday's home game against Eastern Michigan is the first of what should be 10 straight with the Spartans favored to win.
I am a single mother of two kids; my son is a college senior and my daughter is a junior in high... EAST LANSING - The Michigan State quote of the past week goes to senior receiver Tony Lippett, on the loss that has by now been dissected all the way down to the presnap motions. It really is that simple for these late-teens-to-early-twenties folk, who don't obsess about all the outside noise nearly as much as the people who help create it.
While last week was an off week for the Michigan State football team, things are just beginning to ramp up for Tom Izzo and the basketball team. After traveling to Oregon to serve as the football team's honorary captain last weekend, Izzo and his staff were busy during the week hitting the recruiting trail and finishing up individual workouts.

Taiwan Jones finished up his media interviews Thursday after Michigan State's lone practice of the week and walked past MSU defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi, who was far from finished. In fact, Narduzzi was explaining how Oregon tacked on a meaningless touchdown in its 46-27 win over MSU last weekend with some uncharacteristic gap blocking - the Ducks usually go with zone blocking on running plays - and how Jones didn't detect it.
If the Michigan State offense is going to 'learn to finish better,' as quarterback Connor Cook declared necessary Thursday, it will need more from its offensive line. More contributors, for one thing - MSU went with a six-man rotation in last week's 46-27 loss at No.
Right off the bat, let's be honesta this is a terrible week of college football games. There are less than a handful of legitimately important matchups, and what's worsea it's the kind of week where we're probably going to see a lot of second string players get way too much play.
