For Colonials, defeat isn't a total loss
It is difficult to remember the last time Karl Hobbs was so pleased after a loss. Sure, the George Washington coach wasn't happy that the Colonials gave up the most points to an opponent in 32 years, losing, 110-97, to Providence at Smith Center on Wednesday night.
But after watching his young team go toe-to-toe with a Big East team, Hobbs was practically bubbling over with enthusiasm.
'I'm so excited about our team. I really am,' Hobbs said. 'I'm just hoping that we can continue to play the way we played today. Nine turnovers in this type of a basketball game is major. To get 97 points against this kind of team and to shoot the high percentage that we shot, [46.9 percent, is major].'
Friars will provide a measuring stick for improving George Washington
To his credit, Karl Hobbs is not afraid to admit he's made a few recruiting mistakes over the last few seasons.

Hyped-up Colonials cruise past Patriots
There's perhaps no point in the history of George Washington basketball when a victory over George Mason - the younger, less prestigious school five miles outside the Beltway - would have meant so much.
