Army and Navy know their options
Whenever he gets the chance, Army Coach Rich Ellerson watches the football teams from Navy and Georgia Tech on television. He does so partly because of his long-standing friendships with those teams' coaches, Ken Niumatalolo and Paul Johnson. But Ellerson is also curious: His team, like Niumatalolo's and Johnson's, employs the triple-option offense.
'We try to see what kind of answers people are coming up with [to defend it] along the way,' said Ellerson, who is in his first season as Army's head coach. 'We all have a little different spin on it, we all have different assets to play with. There is no doubt that if this is a family tree, the patriarch is Paul Johnson.'

"It is reaction based off instincts," says Navy junior quarterback Ricky Dobbs, whose task will be to speed read Army's defense when the teams meet Saturday in Philadelphia.

Navy is all business on Hawaii trip
There are certain things that Navy can control as it prepares for its game against Hawaii at Aloha Stadium on Saturday. The weather, however, is not one of them. When the Midshipmen went outside for practice on Monday in Annapolis, they put on sweat pants and long sleeves and worked out in the cold, windy, rainy weather.
'I don't know too many things, but I know it's warmer in Honolulu,' Coach Ken Niumatalolo said with a laugh. The forecast for Saturday's game calls for partly cloudy skies and a temperature of 82 degrees. The Midshipmen are excited to be making their first trip to Hawaii since 1999, but they're also wary of the challenges it presents.

Finally, it's time to take a break
The Midshipmen gathered on the practice field for a brief stretching and running session on Monday afternoon. After that, Coach Ken Niumatalolo wanted the players to stay as far away from football as possible for a few days.
'They are banished,' Niumatalolo said. 'The only reason you got to be here is treatment, and Doc [Jeff Fair] tells you when to come. There's no extra lifting, [so] go in the hall, go with your companies. Re-introduce yourself to people. You've been away for a while. It's a great opportunity. We complained all year that we had a tough schedule without a break. This is our break now.'
DOBBS' DAY: It's uncanny how many times this season a Navy skill position player has been tackled, tripped up or simply stumbled on approach to the end zone.
