Scott gets his chance with Browns
Austin Scott has a lot of work ahead of him. The Cleveland Browns brought in a total of 54 players -- five draft picks, 15 undrafted free agents and 34 players invited merely for a tryout -- to get their rookie minicamp going on Friday.
The three-day event will end Sunday, and Scott, the former Parkland High School star whose career really never got off the ground at Penn State, is hoping he can make a big enough impression to earn a contract.
''All these kids have the same shot,'' Browns coach Romeo Crennel said during a media conference after putting the potential players through a practice on Friday. ''After tonight, they might not all have the same shot, but going in they all had the same shot.'' Read more

Austin Scott at Browns' rookie minicamp
For the first time in his life, Austin Scott's reputation on the football field means nothing.
When he arrives in Cleveland today for the Cleveland Browns rookie minicamp, he is arriving as neither a draft pick nor an undrafted free agent; he is arriving for a tryout pending a physical later today.
''He'll be meeting with the coaching staff, the front office and have dinner with everyone there,'' said Chris Lencheski of SKI & Co., Scott's agent, who said that he has encouraged the former Parkland High School star and soon-to-be Penn State graduate to concentrate on football and forego interviews, if possible. The Continental Airlines flight bringing Austin Scott back to Allentown touched down at 5:20 p.m. on Sunday.
Scott was still soaring an hour later.
The former Parkland High School football star came back from a tryout at the Cleveland Browns' rookie minicamp with a 1-year contract.
Scott, a running back who played sparingly at Penn State University because of injuries and personal issues, showed enough of his talent, speed and skill at the tryout to earn his first NFL contract.
NFL contracts aren't guaranteed, which means that Scott must make the 53-man roster or the team's practice squad in order to have the contract honored. Read more

Should rape accusers be named? Scott case spurs debate The Morning...
It isn't AIDS or unwanted pregnancy. It's knowing someone else could find out.
That's the fear rape crisis counselors know they're most likely to see in the women they're called to help.
''The greatest concern is whether or not it's going to be in the newspaper,'' said Suzanne Beck of the Crime Victims Council of the Lehigh Valley last week. ''That's what we continuously hear when we're with victims in the emergency room.''
For decades, most news organizations have withheld the names of accusers in rape cases because of concerns that identifying them could discourage other such victims from pursuing criminal charges. Read more
