Maryland is courting a signature early win
The pocket ace Maryland held throughout both its struggles last season and its strong finish was a November victory over a top five opponent. When Selection Sunday came, the Terrapins were on the figurative bubble, and although it never will be known how much their win over then-No. 5 Michigan State in a Thanksgiving weekend tournament helped them earn a No. 10 seed, the achievement certainly provided a considerable push.
So far this season, Maryland (5-2) stands without such a signature nonconference victory, and its final opportunity to claim one comes Sunday night, when the Terrapins will take on No. 3 Villanova (7-0) in the BB&T Classic at Verizon Center.

Maryland finishes fast vs. Indiana
BLOOMINGTON, IND. -- Back and forth, guard Adrian Bowie ran the baseline underneath Maryland's basket with just more than four minutes remaining at Assembly Hall. Maryland held a slim lead over an Indiana squad that may have been outmatched, but refused to acknowledge as much.
Back and forth, guards Greivis Vasquez and Sean Mosley passed the ball at the top of the key as the shot clock ticked down. And finally, after riding out the lull, Vasquez whipped a pass to Bowie for an uncontested layup.

Terps women rebuilding after a great run
When the women's basketball team was introduced at Maryland Madness in mid-October, one member of the program received by far the loudest ovation from the crowd at Comcast Center. When the spotlight focused on Brenda Frese, fans rose to their feet and loudly cheered for the eighth-year coach.
Frese is the one constant for the Terrapins, who are in the midst of a transition period. She is the program's most recognizable face and the lone remaining link to the 2006 NCAA championship team following the graduation of Kristi Toliver and Marissa Coleman and the offseason departure of longtime assistant Erica Floyd.
