Wizards regroup after latest loss
The Washington Wizards ended the month of November with an unsightly 92-76 loss to the Charlotte Bobcats that stunted their progress after their previous two wins and put them back on their continual search for an identity, consistency and chemistry.
Coach Flip Saunders and his players seem to agree on what kind of team they want to be -- one that thrives on solid defense and crisp offensive execution -- but what they are is far short of that.
Gilbert Arenas, the centerpiece of the team, is finding that returning to all-star form after an almost two-year hiatus is more difficult than he, or his coaches, imagined. The Wizards' trio of former all-stars -- Arenas, Antawn Jamison and Caron Butler -- has shared the court for only five games, winning two of them. Saunders has been unable to find reliable production from other players, making it hard for him to settle on a regular rotation.

Nick Young doesn't have a nervous tic or an obsessive-compulsive disorder that makes him overly sensitive about getting his uniform dirty. So Coach Flip Saunders found it confusing and a bit annoying to see Young brush his fingers across his chest, as if he were cleaning himself, after each made basket on Tuesday.

In this episode of 'the Young and the Restless':
One year ago Tuesday, Eddie Jordan had just finished handing out Thanksgiving turkeys when he was informed that he had been relieved of his duties as head coach after a 1-10 start. And in a twisted coincidence of scheduling, Jordan returns to his home town on the anniversary of that firing as the head coach of the Philadelphia 76ers.
Jordan's former team has two of the pieces that he lacked for his final, futile season -- Gilbert Arenas and Brendan Haywood -- but the Wizards (3-9) have improved only slightly from this point last year, despite the addition of several new pieces and Coach Flip Saunders.

Wizards learn to compensate for injuries
Caron Butler is expected to return from a bruised left kneecap on Tuesday in Cleveland, and Antawn Jamison, sidelined with a right shoulder injury, will make his season debut some time in the next few weeks. But through the first three games of the season, the Washington Wizards (2-1) have shown that even without an all-star forward or two, they can succeed through double D: Depth and defense.
Neither had been present much in past seasons, when injuries left the Wizards without talented veterans, and an indifference to anything other than offense shortened their win totals and had them vacationing in May.
