Wizards-Cavs: a statement game even before it's played
Remember when LeBron James said there was no rivalry between the Wizards and the Cavaliers, because the Wiz haven't yet won? DeShawn Stevenson was asked about that comment Monday afternoon, on the eve of the rivalry's first 2009-10 incarnation.
'He's the Golden Child, he's gonna say that,' Stevenson said. 'He has a lot of stuff to lose. I don't. I don't care.'
Later, Stevenson was asked about ex-teammate Antonio Daniels possibly signing with the Rust Belt infidels.
'I have nothing against [Daniels] as a person,' Stevenson said. 'It's just that jersey and that person that's over there.'

Wizards learn to compensate for injuries
Caron Butler is expected to return from a bruised left kneecap on Tuesday in Cleveland, and Antawn Jamison, sidelined with a right shoulder injury, will make his season debut some time in the next few weeks. But through the first three games of the season, the Washington Wizards (2-1) have shown that even without an all-star forward or two, they can succeed through double D: Depth and defense.
Neither had been present much in past seasons, when injuries left the Wizards without talented veterans, and an indifference to anything other than offense shortened their win totals and had them vacationing in May.

Wizards counting on Blatche, Oberto
It was a little past 11 p.m. on Wednesday when Andray Blatche sauntered into Verizon Center with Washington Wizards assistant coach Sam Cassell. As they took the practice court to work on post moves and jump shots for an hour before retreating to the locker room, Blatche noticed the eerie silence.
Usually the building courses with activity even on non-game days. But after midnight, the only person around was a security guard.
'It was kind of scary, I ain't going to lie,' Blatche said. 'I brought my best friend. I had to go to the locker room by myself. I was a little scared.'
Outlook: The Wizards' $111 million franchise player appears to be healthy for the first time since April 2007.
