Take Five With No. 88 crew chief Lance McGrew

so, Jr wasn't using old cars, he was getting carbon copies of Martin's cars. i can't see where the progress is, they get him out of the pits with the leaders and he goes backwards as usual. how is that progress ?

the quote was almost carbon copy..room for Lance and Team to work with.

Re-read what Lance says..he sees progress and COT is finicky, just ask Kyle Busch about Richmond.

I don't know why, but I really like Lance. I am hopeful he and Junior do well enough over the final ten races so that we can drop the interim crew chief thing and get to just crew chief.

He needs someone like Pop's, Zippy or Knaus. Lance isn't cutting it, he's a nice guy but he doesn't have enough Cup experience as a crew chief, his stats speak volumes.

so does Jr's for the past 5 years. there isn't a crew chief good enough to carry dead weight

You are 100% correct about his stats speaking volumes! Lance has been with HMS for years and has MANY MANY championships to his credit, in fact, more than any team member in NASCAR history. Look it up before you bash one of the best their is in the garage. Joonyer is not, has not, and never will cut it...so fire the problem maker, the driver.

too much Jr Kool-Aid for Lance & company!! First you need a driver!!Started 5th and drops to 21st!! how Lame is that? Give us a break!!

What else should be changed within the 88 team so juneher can win??? What else has to be changed within NASCAR so juneher can win??? What else has to be changed within HMS so juneher can win???
Would somebody please step forward with an answer....enough of this limp opinions, juneher needs some rock solid facts on how to win!!!!!

ohh hell here we go crew chief again. they have changed everything. why cant jr nation just say ohh well maybe it is the driver

Lance has 1 Bush series championship as a crew cheif, thats it buddy. He has no cup wind to his credit. He's worked on championship teams yes but not as the leader. Second when he was announced an interm crew chief he basically stated he didnt want the job so if his heart isnt there then the team will continue to struggle. To quote a post i read somewhere else there is no "I" in team, you wn as a team and you lose as a team, for crying out loud there is only so much a driver can do, if you don't have good equipment and an awsome setup under you then you're not going to do very well. Jr's sucked this year and when you suck, changes need to be made, I say wipe the slate clean and hire a whole new crew.

To further enphasize my point look at Matt Kenseth. Once he lost Robbie Riser his career has slowly taken a turn for the worse, he missed the chase this year for the first time in the chaes inception. It goes to show chemistry is a huge factor in how well the driver and team do.

I think Lance does have his heart in it 100%... But I am to the point that I now believe it is Jr. that just can't drive this car.... And lord knows I don't mean that as a dis to Jr. But what else can it be?

^ If Lance wasn't in it, I don't think he would be so focused on turning the team around. And yes, I do think that the COT is some of Junior's problem. But he has shown that if you get it right for him, he can drive in the top ten, top five.

Jack Rousch's whole program was down this year, as well as RCR, that happens. HMS is on top with not only his teams as well as Tony's 2 rides, even Brad K showed how to win in a HMS car. The only failure in the HMS stable in the 88 team!!!!

i know when his crew gets him out of the pits in the top 5 he has shown that he can drive it to a 20th place finish.

i've looked over this article over and over, nowhere does Lance say they've been using Tony Jr's cars. he said the 88 car is pretty much a carbon copy of the 5 car.

Kenseth is not having the year he wanted for sure. But there are several glaring differences between Matt and jew-nyar. First of all, Matt is a CHAMPION, jew-nyar is not. Matt won two races so far this year, Jew-nyar ZERO. I don't here Matt's fans whining and boo hooing and making every excuse and blame everything and everyone on earth for his worse than average year like the jew-nyar fans. You are right, Matt is having A bad year based on his standards and he did miss the chase for the FIRST time. Jew-nyar has missed the chase how many times? Matt's worst year is about the same as jew-nyars best year. Comparing Matt to jew-nyar is like comparing Holyfield to Gary Coleman in the boxing ring or Jimmy Johnson to Buckshot Jones. Please get this thru your head: jew-nyar's lack of talent is the ONLY problem the 88 team and HMS has. ALL the other HMS teams and HMS affiliated teams are in the chase and competitive almost every week. Get it?

Not all of his fans are blaming his crew chief. He is having a bad year, period! His fans are not going anywhere. Do you go to Michael's or Elliot's thread, if they have one, and try and steer their fans right?

Lets be real, listen to the in-car between JR and Lance, Lance has no plan if all goes backwards, his on-track decisions are usally wrong, and often ask JR for help. A good driver Crew Chief systen only works if the driver tells him the problem and that he really does not have to say because just watch the in-car you can see the problems, then the crew cheif should guide the driver and make the adjustments when needed. Simple if you were to listen to JJ and CK thats what they do and it works.
