The epic war film "All Quiet on the Western Front" will be shown at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 5, at the Paramount Theatre, 213 N. Schuyler Ave. in Kankakee. The 1930 film is part of the Bradley Library's One Book/One Read program.

Turner Classic Movies and Fathom Events are joining forces to bring "Gone with the Wind" back to select theaters around the country in celebration of the iconic film's 75th anniversary. The Civil War romance starring Vivien Leigh and Clark Gable will be shown in participating theaters on Sunday, September 28, 2014, and on Wednesday, October 1. The special screenings will include an introduction by TCM host Robert Osborne .

On this day, September 15, 1946, American film director, screenwriter, and producer William Oliver Stone is born. Stone came into public attention in the late 1980s and the early 1990s for writing and directing a series of films about the Vietnam War, in which he had participated as an infantry soldier.
The Spin digs conceptual art, so we were fascinated with Kris Kristofferson's solo acoustic show Saturday night at the Ryman. His performance was a benefit for the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, and it went beyond the usual singer-songwriter conventions - cult of personality, minimal accompaniment, unstudied vocal approach, and the like - into a sphere all its own.

Griffith's film The Birth of a Nation made pioneering use of advanced camera and narrative techniques, and its immense popularity set the stage for the dominance of the feature-length film in the United States.
A bit of this and a bit of that ... with a reminder that the 1939 epic historical romance "Gone with the Wind," directed by Victor Fleming, will be shown as part of the Cinemark Reel Classics series at 2 p.m. Sept. 28, and again at both 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Oct. 1, at Movies 16, 5721 58th St. Filmed with the Civil War and Reconstruction as huge backdrops, the cast includes Clark Gable, Vivien Leigh, Olivia de Havilland, Leslie Howard, Oscar winner Hattie McDaniel and Thomas Mitchell.
It's a rare occurrence for me when a beloved movie or TV show from my childhood is not only as good as I remember it, but is actually even better. Ghostbusters is one of those such occurrences.

Now, 75 years after the film's debut, Texans are getting an in-depth look into how the influential picture was produced.
The Vacaville Performing Arts Theatre has a new manager and has announced a new, four-concert slate of shows for its so-called "season of shows." In a press release, manager Rachel Morgan said the lineup starts Nov. 7 with Starship, starring vocalist Mickey Thomas, followed by Art Garfunkel on Nov. 16, Gentleman's Rule on March 26, and Jim Brickman on May 9. Gifted with a high but soulful tenor, Thomas first made his mark in 1976 as lead vocalist on the Elvin Bishop Band hit "Fooled Around and Fell in Love."
Denzel Washington shocked fans everywhere when his Reddit Ask Me Anything chat revealed his interest in being the next James Bond. He has certainly proven his capabilities throughout his career in films such as Glory and Training Day , but was the 59-year-old actor telling the truth or just being a tease? During the AMA session , one Reddit user asked the Oscar winner, "Would you be interested in being the next James Bond?" "The next James Bond? They better hurry up! Yes I would!" Washington first replied.
As a title, The Devil's Playground resonates in a particular way. Like Picnic at Hanging Rock , or Breaker Morant , nobody should toy with this classic.
