Rourke returns to form in 'The Wrestler'
"The Wrestler" - Darren Aronofsky's "The Wrestler" is a touching but flawed portrait of loneliness that deserves comparison with classic 1970s character studies like Francis Ford Coppola's "The Conversation." Here, it's Mickey Rourke playing the role of the alienated hero, and he doesn't just nail the part, he body-slams it.
But, it turns out to be the actor's secret weapon in "The Wrestler." Just out on DVD, "The Wrestler" is a devastating portrait of a past-his-prime grappler named Randy "The Ram" Robinson who's been reduced to doing staged, but no less brutal, pantomime in the ring for chump change.
Proclaimed by Interview magazine as having so handsome a profile "it could be struck on a Roman coin," actor Eric Roberts was best-known for two things: 1) being a great actor who was prone to making bad choices, and 2) being Julia Roberts' big brother.
