The UKa TMs Gilbert and Sullivan heritage is a blessing and a curse. The jokes find a natural home in middle England, but the Da TMOyly Carte Companya TMs long monopoly left the operettas mired in tradition.
It's hard to think of Gilbert and Sullivan's "The Mikado" as real opera because it's just so much fun.
