It's easy to write yourself into a box and hard to think outside it when you're making yet another psyche-out thriller - one of those in-your-head and under-your-skin flicks.

It's no secret that "The Box" is a flop.The Cameron Diaz-starring horror thriller, released by Warner Bros.

When I chatted with Richard Kelly several months ago , I walked away with the impression that THE BOX was going to be a smart, but largely conventional suspense flick based on Richard Matheson's super-short story "Button, Button". I was cool with this, but what I really wanted was a return to the unsettling ambiguity of DONNIE DARKO .

Richard Kelly's " The Box " hits theaters today, posing the morality question, "Would you press a button for a million dollars, if you knew it would kill someone?" It all sounds so dramatic, and slightly unrealistic, especially if the question was posed to some everyday dude.

The new movie The Box might be the most preposterous enterprise since "Dick in a Box," and not just because the question that drives the story - Would you accept $1 million if it meant someone, somewhere would have to die? - would be better explored over late-night bong hits than with a feature-length motion picture.

" Precious", one week away from nationwide release, has set a limited release record, according to "Variety.com". It opened in only 18 selected theaters on Friday but grossed $1.8 million, a $100,000 per screen average.

Zemeckisa 3D performance capture version of A Christmas Carol has topped the US box office despite clocking lower than anticipated opening figures.

"The Box" thinks way outside it. Much weirder and more serious-minded than it appears in its ads, "The Box" is set in the bicentennial year of 1976.

I know, I know, "The Box" triumphantly qualifies for one of my favorite adjectives, "preposterous." But if you make a preposterous movie that isn't boring, I count that as some kind of a triumph.

Even if you were not already familiar with the basic structure of The Box , they reveal it to you in the trailer.

Disney and Robert Zemeckis are betting big that A Christmas Carol will open and, like The Polar Express, stick around long enough to show a healthy profit by the time this $180 million 3D motion capture version of the Dickens tale is chased off 3D screens by Avatar.

There are certain movies that we can tell are going to be bad just by watching the trailers, but sometimes circumstances dictate that we go see these movies anyway.

The Box is not an easy film to talk about. Almost every description of the film will end up as a spoiler, it's fairly high concept, and it has a few glaring problems.
