DVD of the Week: Lookin' to Get Out
Lookin' to Get Out Directed by Hal Ashby 1982, 105 minutes, USA Warner As chronicled in Nick Dawson's book Being Hal Ashby: Life of a Hollywood Rebel , Lookin' to Get Out was a wildly over-budget production, filmed during a chaotic and desperate time in Ashby's professional life.
The significance here is that the studio had originally taken control of the film from Ashby and released their version to theaters, where the film failed to catch much of an audience.
Trumping the Tabloids Two years ago she attempted something completely different -- a solo show she describes as "an embarrassing intimate account of my all too eventful life." Called Wishful Drinking , Fisher premiered it in the belly of the beast -- in Hollywood's Geffen Theatre, where it was received with glowing notices and audience response.
The comedy that treats you like a kingfor a day. Critically panned and a commercial failure upon its original release in 1982, Lookin' to Get Out! was one of the final films directed by the superb Hal Ashby.
