Amongs the awards shows and events taking place this weekend around the globe, the Irish Film and Television Awards were handed out in Dublin, Ireland.

As movie watchers, we are always impressed when directors are able to depict reality in stark and frightening ways.

The award-winning film Shame directed by Steve McQueen and starring Michael Fassbender, Carey Mulligan and Nicole Beharie is set to play at The Capri Theatre in Montgomery starting Friday February 3 through Wednesday February 8. Are we ready yet to be grown up at the movies? Even in a film year as scattershot as 2011, it's a stretch to call two films a trend, but along with feel-bad movie of Christmas, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo , the Michael Fassbender vehicle Shame seems designed to challenge Hollywood's last taboo: mature subject matter.

OK, now that the excitement over the actual nominations is dying down a little, let's talk about the holes in the list.
