Rookie Matt Shoemaker is a big reason why and on Monday he goes after a seventh straight winning decision and tries to help the Angels become the first team to clinch a playoff spot in the opener of a four-game series with the Seattle Mariners at Angel Stadium. Shoemaker has been rock solid for the Angels this season, going 15-4 with a 3.16 ERA.

Michael Choice leaves game with left hamstring injury

Texas Rangers outfielder Michael Choice left today's game in the bottom of the 5th inning after pulling up at second base on a double. Choice was carried off the field, and was grabbing at his leg when pulling up at second base with what appeared to be a hamstring injury.

Thoughts on a 3-2 Rangers win

You know how, when the Rangers were good, there'd be games where the offense would be shut down by some scrub, and we'd all say, "How is it that the Rangers can't score any runs off of Willie Lumplump?" and rail about losing to a no-name nobody pitcher? That's what the Braves are doing now. Lisalverto Bonilla, the latest reliever that the Rangers decided to give a shot at starting in the minors, was pressed into duty today after scheduled starter Scott Baker was scratched with triceps tendinitis.

Nomar Mazara is "frighteningly talented," per Keith Law

Keith Law did a chat session over at ESPN today in which he describes 19 year old Rangers outfielder Nomar Mazara as "frighteningly talented," and suggests that he could be a September call-up next year for Texas. Mazara took a big leap forward this year, putting up a .264/.358/.470 line for low-A Hickory , and a .306/.381/.518 line in 97 plate appearances for Frisco.
