Erasmo Ramirez came one inning from accomplishing something no Tacoma Rainiers pitcher had done in more than a year throw a complete game shutout.

After the Jackson Generals got out of the Southern League North Division cellar with a series win over Birmingham, the team was determined not to go back Thursday.

Jackson starting pitcher Kenn Kasparek was roughed up in his first Double-A outing since being reinstated from the disabled list as Birmingham won the series opener, 7-1. Kasparek , who hasn't pitched for the Generals since May 11, allowed five of his seven runs in the first inning as the Barons pulled away.

There wasn't a dull moment in the last 36 hours of Erasmo Ramirez. The right-hander was planning on starting today for the Double-A Jackson Generals.
