Standard-Examiner correspondent OGDEN - A packed Saturday-night crowd at Lindquist Field saw their Ogden Raptors win a 2-1 thriller over the Missoula Osprey in extra innings, after blowing a ninth-inning lead.

The Ogden Raptors came up a couple of hits short of a game-winning rally, falling 6-4 to the Missoula Osprey in Pioneer League action on Friday night at Ogren Park Allegiance Field.

It took the Raptors less than one inning to knock Osprey starter Eric Smith out of the game, but they couldn't knock out Missoula.

The Owlz earned their eighth straight victory - capitalizing on three Osprey errors - for a 6-4 decision.

It didn't take much for the Owls to pick up the win on the road 2-0 against Missoula.

Jerry Sands ran across the plate with the game-winning run for Ogden and the sands of time ran out before Idaho Falls could reverse its costly miscue.

Travis Witherspoon was 2-for-4 from the plate with two triples and drove in a run while center fielder Jean Segura was 2-for-5 and roped a double to drive in the other run and lead the Owlz to the narrow victory.

Ogden left fielder Brian Cavazos-Galvez was 3-for-5 from the plate, blasted two home runs and drove in four runs for the Raptors.

While Ogden slugger Brian Cavazos-Galvez earned the oohs and aahs with a pair of home runs, the Raptors pitching staff was just as impressive Saturday night.

The Raptors snuck out of Great Falls with a 5-4 win over the Voyagers on Friday night in a Pioneer League game that still has the hometown crowd wondering what went wrong.
