Armed men invade home, shoot dog west of West Palm Beach
Two armed and masked men forced their way into a couple's home early Tuesday morning, demanded drugs and money and then took off, the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said.
The couple, Kevin Dummett and Kellin Hahn, didn't bother calling the Sheriff's Office until the same men came back six hours later and shot the couple's pit bull-mix dog, investigators said.
This time, Dummett, 35, and Hahn, 26, ran out of their home in the 5900 block of Gun Club Road, west of West Palm Beach, leaving Hahn's sleeping son, 8, behind.

But when Teresa Harvey learned Wednesday that the bar where he was last seen is offering a $5,000 reward for anyone who can lead detectives to his attackers, she described her son as an optimist and revealed herself to be one, too.

FHP Trooper Killed In West Palm Beach Crash
West Palm Beach police are investigating a fatal accident which claimed the life of an off-duty Florida Highway Patrol trooper. They said alcohol may have played a role in the accident.
Police said trooper Elijah Jones Jr., 37, and a female driver were in a Mercedes that missed a turn from Jog Road onto Roebuck Road and then flipped onto its roof Saturday at 3 a.m.
Police said Jones died on the scene and the driver was taken to Saint Mary's Medical Center. She is listed in serious condition. Read more

Palm Beach County expected to OK cameras to catch red-light runners
“It will be treated like a code enforcement violation”
Palm Beach County commissioners are going full speed ahead with a plan to catch motorists who run red lights.
Although state legislators failed to agree on a plan to let cities use cameras to enforce state traffic laws, the County Commission is expected to make good on a promise made in March to finish an ordinance that would put the cameras to work on local roads.
A hearing on the controversial topic will start at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the county's government center, 301 N. Olive Ave., in West Palm Beach. Read more
