Armed men invade home, shoot dog west of West Palm Beach

Two armed and masked men forced their way into a couple's home early Tuesday morning, demanded drugs and money and then took off, the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said.

The couple, Kevin Dummett and Kellin Hahn, didn't bother calling the Sheriff's Office until the same men came back six hours later and shot the couple's pit bull-mix dog, investigators said.

This time, Dummett, 35, and Hahn, 26, ran out of their home in the 5900 block of Gun Club Road, west of West Palm Beach, leaving Hahn's sleeping son, 8, behind.

Feeding homeless is food for the soul, says pop star Hilary Duff

The homeless spread out on the covered porch on the right side of the building. The groups who'd come to feed them drifted to the porch on the other side.

All were waiting for celebrity singer-actress Hilary Duff to arrive: one side to begin the food distribution; the other side, to eat.

'I think it's a blessing all the way around,' said Manuel Poole, 46, who grew up in the Pleasant City neighborhood, a stone's throw from where he sat Thursday in Currie Park. 'She's taking time to come and entertain us. She could be over there at Palm Beach, hanging with the rich and famous instead of with us good-for-nothin's.'

Palm Beach County expected to OK cameras to catch red-light runners

“It will be treated like a code enforcement violation”

Palm Beach County commissioners are going full speed ahead with a plan to catch motorists who run red lights.

Although state legislators failed to agree on a plan to let cities use cameras to enforce state traffic laws, the County Commission is expected to make good on a promise made in March to finish an ordinance that would put the cameras to work on local roads.

A hearing on the controversial topic will start at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the county's government center, 301 N. Olive Ave., in West Palm Beach. Read more
